People ask me if I play golf. No, not anymore. I’ve tried and it just never got easy or enjoyable for me.
But my late husband would always answer that he loved to hit a small white ball around a golf course. He’d also add that calling what he did as ‘playing’ was extremely generous.
Golf is all about being out in nature, and there are many beautiful places in this world. The Caribbean is simply made for golf destination travel. Jim was fortunate to have played many of those courses while traveling, living, and working there. He shared his 3 favorite Caribbean golf destinations.
Aruba – Tierra del Sol Resort & Golf
Aruba is a beautiful place. Rustic and rugged, desert and stunning beaches. Throw in a golf course and then you have something truly special. This course on the far north tip of the island has hills, valleys, and beautiful ocean views all of which highlight the arid, rocky landscapes. You are more likely to lose your ball in the cactus than the trees here. And don’t worry about the iguanas. They’re harmless.
Sandy Lane (Green Monkey Course) – Barbados
This Tom Fazio designed course was brilliant, challenging, and quirky (hello, there’s a monkey bunker). It’s built in an old quarry and is for the exclusive use of resort guests. Although there are a few other courses on the outstanding property, this one was Jim’s favorite.
Santa Barbara – Curacao
Pete Dye designed this course which is regularly ranked as one of the best courses in the Caribbean. Although a bit far from downtown Willemstad, the protected UNESCO historic district where the cruise ships dock, the resort itself is an amazing destination. Of course, the service is outstanding as well.
