News about hiking normally doesn’t catch my eye.  I love the outdoors, but trekking around in the woods is generally not my thing. This story about an abandoned town, however, surprised me.

A hiker discovered an abandoned town just hiding in the middle of the Smoky Mountains National Forest.  The discovery was the second forgotten find in the national forest within a couple of years.

Click here for the story, including some amazing photos.

The link also includes photos of other abandoned sites rediscovered in the United States.

This makes me want to go exploring off the beaten path… maybe!

A group of people is gathered outdoors, likely at a parade or festival. Many are wearing colorful, striped shirts and beaded necklaces, suggesting a Mardi Gras celebration. Some are seated in folding chairs, while others are standing. A person is elevated on a ladder seat, providing a better view of the event. The background shows multi-story buildings and a partly cloudy sky. The atmosphere appears festive and lively.
